Szia from Debrecen...Brrrr

Monday, December 31, 2007

We are here in Debrecen, Hungary!! We are having a great time gettting to know the city and fellow students. Sorry for the lack of updates and pictures, this is the first time we've been able to update. We will try to do better in the remaining days. Throughout our time remaining here different members of the team will be posting their experiences and stories of our time here.
Christine Aubert is going to write about our first few days and experiences so far!!

Hello!! It has been a wonderful (very cold) time here in Hungary. We got here and experienced jet lag right away, at least I did! After meeting the missionaries and getting a small tour, we went to our quaint little hotel and went to bed, even though it was only 8. We were so tired and figured if we slept through 'til morning it would help us with our jet lag. However, most of us woke up at 1:00 or so in the morning and were wide awake! We went to two churches, one was Saturday night at the International Church of Debrecen... a small church, the pastor and his wife are missionaries from Mississipi and were extremely nice. The service was in English translated to Hungarian by a lady who is a professional translator. The second church was Debrecen Calvary Chapel, the pastor is a young man from Hungary who is also pretty fluent in English. The service was in Hungarian and he had someone translating in English. Both churches were great! So far we've had two coffee shoppe nights... the first was a little strange, we didn't quite know what we were doing and I have to admit I was a little disappointed. That night we gathered in one of the hotel rooms and talked about what we could do to make it better. The second night went much better... God is good! The team has come together and we are becoming good friends, we have talked and reminded each other that we are here to do God's will, and He is in control. We are going to try our best and trust God to use us for the glory of His Kingdom. Finally, we have been having a lot of fun... we are slowly learning Hungarian words like "Szia" meaning "Hello" and "Goodbye." We have learned our way through the city on the bus and the trams. We had one incident where the doors of the tram were closing and one of our sponsor's got caught in the door, but no one was hurt and the doors were reopened. It was actually quite funny. =) We also had one incident where we were having our bus & tram passes checked and a few of them were incorrect so we were taken to the bus station and we had to have them fixed. We could have been fined, but the lady was very nice to us. We later joked that we were almost put in jail because of our faulty bus passes. Overall, we are doing well... Thank you for your prayers, please continue to pray! Family: I love and miss you all!
In Christ's Love,
Christine Aubert
