Home Again...

Saturday, January 12, 2008

We are finally all back in Texas. Our last few nights of the coffee house event were very good. Many of the same students came back night after night. The very last night was probably the busiest night. We had a students representing about 10 different countries!!
This trip was not one that we came back with warm fuzzies knowing we had made a huge difference. This trip was a "1 step" trip. It was explained to our team that the conversations and friendships we make during this short period move the students 1 step closer to knowing God. This step might be the very first step, somewhere in between, or the very last step of becoming a Christian.
We had the opportunity to make some new friends and get to know many knew people. we handed out our contact cards to those that wanted them. On the back of each was our personal testimonies. All we can do is pray that the conversations we had and the cards we passed out might be used to move the students 1 step closer to God. Pray that they might be interested or curious in what we believe and ask us questions.

Our trip back home was very eventful. To make things short, we missed 2 flights which made us stay the night in Chicago, which caused us to stay most of the day in the Chicago airport on standby. We were in transit for about 40 hours.
We all made it back safely but still awaiting some luggage :)

Thank you for all of your prayers and thoughts while we were in Hungary. Your prayers were heard and greatly appreciated!!!

UNO, Talking, Pasoy, Laughing, Spoons

Thursday, January 03, 2008

Hello everyone!! We are having a great time here in Debrecen. Yesterday we continued publication of our cofee house event. We walked around the University talking to students and telling them about the free coffee house. Not too many students were around becuase of the exams. Most of the students are either finished with exams and not around campus of busy studying all day for their final exams. They few we did talk to were very nice and showed interest in the event.
Later that night we ate at "The Flask", a tradional Hungarian resturaunt with delicious gouloush (sp?). It was very good!! We went back to the University early to begin putting up new flyers and talk to the students around the buikdings of the cofee house. the night started pretty slow but gradually more and more students came in. At one time, we had about 10 international students. Many were returns from the night before, which was very surprising. We were a little scared that the previous night's deep discussions might scare them away..we were proven wrong!! We had another great night of fun and talking. Many of the new students were very interesting and expressed that they would return tonight.
This experience has really changed my stereotype of the middle eastern people. There are a very large number of students from Iran. They have been the most returners and are very fun.
Please continue to pray for our team and these students we have met and those we will meet!!!

Hi!! This is Christine! I just wanted to add a little bit about what I've been doing. I went with the team yesterday to the University to talk to students but had to leave early with our sponsors. The three of us left early so we could meet a family here in Debrecen. The wife is from Argentina and her husband is Hungarian. She doesn't know the language here and she is lonely so we went to talk to her in spanish so she would feel a little better. We spent some time there and found out she was pregnant with a boy... we talked about they met through their ministry. She is a very sweet lady with a heart for God. Both her and her husband are working to tell the people of Hungary about the love of God. I can't put in to words how wonderful it is to fellowship with other believers in Hungary. The last few nights that we have had the coffee shoppe, it has been an unbelievable experience. God has blessed us with people who are interested in us... the biggest question we get is: Why are you here? WHY HUNGARY? The team has been studying Philippians while we are here, we have been reminded what Paul says about living a Christlike life... please pray for us, that we may show the people what it is to walk like Christ by the way we walk, talk and interact with them... that we may show the people God's love! Thank you for reading...

Happy New Year

Tuesday, January 01, 2008

Happy New year to everyone!! We began 2008 7 hours before everyone else in the US. Andrew will tell about some more experience below but first I want to share a little.
This team is amazing!! I am so blessed to be able to serve with them. We have grown closer and gotten to know each other better through many experiences we have had. This trip has called for alot of flexibility!! (more than expected). The team has been flexible and willing to do whatever is needed to get things done. Last night a few of us had the opportunity to go to a Hungarian New Years eve party with some of the students from the church we were at on Sunday. The house was full of Hungarian students ranging from ages 14 -25. We had a great time meeting Hungarian believers and eating good food!! We played a game at the beginning to learn all the names. We all gathered in a circle and worshiped God through song. We sang in both Hungarian and English. It was an amazing time!!! We only have a few days left but much to do. Please keep us all in your prayers as well as the students we meet!!

Oh man is it cold here!!
Yesterday everyone got a little later start than usual. Most of the mornings we have breakfast at the Millers (They are the husband and wife that are taking us in and helping us do everything) We meet around 10 in the morning and have prayer and breakfast. Its always nice just to sit around and talk about what happened the day before and seeing all the ways God is working in our world. Breakfast is a normal American breakfast for the most part; eggs, toast, coffee, milk, orange juice. Anyway, we decided yesterday that we were going to go around the city and try to find people that spoke English and invite them to our coffee shop. One thing we didn't take into concideration is that it is New years Eve and most of the stores were closing. We ended up talking to aobut 10 poeple that spoke English and told them what we were doing. None of them showed up. Around 3:30 we decided that we had had enough so we went back to the hotel to get ready for the night. (it gets dark about 4). We met some kids at the church we went to the day before so at 6 half of the group went with them to a New Years Eve party. The other half went and set up for the coffee shop. Only a few people showed up for coffee last night becuase most of them were out doing other activities for New Years Eve. It was still worthwhile and everyone had a good time. We learned some new dances which was very intersting but very fun. Aroudn 11:15 we all went to the center of town for the countdown. They had a band and fireworks and tons of people. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. There was a steady downfall of snow and hardly any wind. After the countdown they sang the national anthem and had a firework show. The firework show was awesome becuase they played the song Halliluia in Hungarian and the fireworks went to the beat. Everyone went bak to the hotel afterwards and had a toast for the New Year. All in all the day went very good and we had some good conversations with people. Not sure what God has in store for today but it is always enexpected and wonderful.

In Christ's Love,
Andrew Pulley
