CURE is an amazing place with amazing people

We had 2 new patients come in for new prosthetics. One guy is a recent amputee and never worn a prosthetic. He is about 29 years old and excited to have the opportunity to be able to walk again. The other patient is an older man that is about 60 years old. He lost his leg and his arm in a car accedent in 1970. He currently is using a single-axis prosthetic with a manual lock. He wants to try the LEGS knee for a natural gait.
These 2 new patients are challenging. The time constraints we have make it difficult to be able to build 2 prosthetics from scratch and teach them to walk using the LEGS knee.
The guys in the brace shop have been hard at work all week working on sockets. The working pace is much slower in Africa than it is in the States. My specific job cannot be done until the patients are able to stand and walk on the new prosthetic device. Because of this, I used my time helping out where needed. Ihelped plater and modify molds in the brace shop, exercises with the patients, and observe both rehab and prosthetic making.

Meagan led a rehabilitation seminar focusing on rehab or lower limb amputees. It was a 2 day seminar that had about 15 people attend. Peter came back in to be a demonstration patient for Meagan. THe seminar went very well and the attendees seemed to appreciate the information taught.
On Friday Peter took me to the nurses station to get permission to do more balloons for the kids. I started out doing them for a few kids in the play room and then began teaching the mothers how to make dogs and hats. Lunch time came and they all had to leave. I was requested to come back after lunch so that I could go to each bed in the ward and make evry child a balloon. The workers of the playroom led me around to each bed and helped me make the balloons. I had 2 patients follow me and watch me make every baloon. I even had a person pump holder!! The parents seemed to enjoy the balloons almost more than the kids.

Each day I am here at CURE I See how amazing the staff is and the work that they do is. The children that come here are treated with soo much love and care by all of the staff. The CURE oragnization is a wonderful place where God is truely working in the lives if the African people. I count is a great oprivaledge to be able to meet the patients, staff, and doctors.
